The Russian School by Caroline Harrington - Development financed by Cornwall Film.

A comedy of love in a Cold War climate.
Bodmin, 1952. The Cold War deepens. Jonathan and Kit, on National Service, are assigned to cram Russian at what Stalin dubbed 'the School for Spies'. They are also playing twins in a Russian production of Twelfth Night. Jonathan's world is turned upside down by the arrival of the beautiful, and wildly indiscreet Nina Andreevna. Determined to win her, Jonathan is beset by obstacles – brawny farmers, the British establishment and Nina’s fearsome Russian mother. But Nina herself proves the greatest challenge of all. Meanwhile Kit has discovered alternative Bodmin, and a barman called Howard… Will love find a way? And can they make it through Twelfth Night?

Executive Producer: Mike Newell has a long distinguished career as a director (Four Weddings and a Funeral, Donnie Brasco, Mona Lisa Smile) and has executive produced High Fidelity, Traffic and I Capture the Castle. Caroline Harrington started writing for the theatre whilst working as a professional actor. She now works in radio (as a regular scriptwriter for The Archers) as well film and TV. Previous work for Ignition Films includes the TV comedy How Am I Doing So Far? The Russian School is her first full-length screenplay.
