THE
ART OF MEMORY
This project, financed by the European Union through Culture 2000, brings
together collaborators from 5 European Countries: UK, Italy (lead partner),
France, Germany and Greece. It is an exploration of place and space
in people’s memories, fusing oral history with digital art, old
with young, past with present. In outline, each partner has found and
interviewed approximately 100 elderly people in the city of their choice
(respectively Bristol, Padova, Strasbourg, Munster, and Athens). From
those conversations, there emerged a sense of places that may have been
lost or transformed over the years. The artist’s task is then
to create three pieces of site-specific digital art, each at a different
location in the city - though in some way connected. The project will
later be documented on THE ART
OF MEMORY website. The project will be completed by the end of September
2006.
