As you being to walk across the Pero Bridge from the Arnolfini side, listen to the sounds that surround you - imagine the sights and smells that might accompany these sounds. You hear some footsteps which you follow you as you walk to the centre of the bridge, the footsteps halt and so do you and then the familiar voice of Ray Buck begins to tell you how it was for him, 60 years ago, as a fourteen year old bo he first came upon this scene.
Eventually Ray finishes and the footsteps again begin to walk off the bridge in the direction of @Bristol, leading you to the dockers window.
Imaginary Footsteps
As you walk you imagine inscribed in the pavement the footsteps you are following embedded in the floor. As you walk you hear in the distance another Docker, Herbert Gray - or Dolly Gray as he was known telling you how he received each days work. As yo come upon the ghost of the dockers as they face you ewaiting to be chosen to work the footsteps fade away...
